Bye-Bye, Roy. :( [Jul. 20th, 2005|10:17 pm]
highwinds
Well, after a week, I've come to face the facts...my life is WAY TOO HECTIC right now to properly train a show dog, and it's not fair to Roy to make him be all alone for so long each day. Roy is moving in with a good friend up in Vancouver, Canada...she works from home and has other Cresties. She will be able to spend all the cuddly-wuddly time she wants with the little dude. I'll really miss him, but on the other hand, I'm so happy that he's going somewhere he can get attention round the clock. My husband and I both work about 60 hours per week, which makes for a sad, bored doggy. :(

I'm still leveraging my art career into a feasible full-time occupation, and once I have it going the way I like it, I'll be able to concentrate on just that and have all the damn dogs I can handle! For the next 12 - 24 months, however, it's dogless and showless for me. My pal said she'll hopefully be able to come to some local shows and let me handle Roy, though, so yay! And my breeder is all set to hook me up with another Specials-quality dog as soon as I feel I'm ready.

I know I'm making the right choice for Roy, but it sure sucks. :( He's such a fun dog! And I'm so bummed that I have to wait even longer to show. Alas. :'(

And no, the irony is not lost on me that I had to find a new home for my beloved whippet because I lost my job...and now I have to send Roy to his auntie's permanently because I work TOO MUCH!

*sigh*

Anyway, I'll still be active on all the groups and still dreaming of when I can get more doggies. My husband actually wants our next Crested for himself, while I'm going to go back to my original passion, Whippets (and maybe a Basenji) as soon as we have bought our house! so I do have MORE THAN ONE dog to look forward to in the future.

Roy stacking...sort of! [Jul. 16th, 2005|08:16 am]
highwinds
Roy didn't do too badly stacking on the table last night. I'm still working with him on this; he learned how to stand and stay without moving a muscle on the table, but now I have to get him to stand and stay LOOKING HAPPY ABOUT IT. As you can see, he's looking a tad insecure about this whole thing...plus my husband took the pics from some weird 3/4 angle so we don't have a really great side view of him (which I was hoping to get so I could study it and see what to change about my handling!) Oh well...it shouldn't be too hard to convince my mom to come over tomorrow night to take more pics of him. She's more enthused about Roy than Will is, although he's getting used to him and he's even volunteered to walk him while I do my aerobics classes. I swear, this is like having a baby. It's put a bit of a strain on our marriage, but it's also made us closer and more supportive and understanding of one another in many ways.

So anyway...we'll call this Roy's "before" training pics. I'll take more as we continue to work on it!

Enjoy the Roy [Jul. 13th, 2005|08:37 pm]

Roy is here at last. uugh - he's really being a class-A hellion, too, but I suppose I can't blame him after spending 12 hours in a crate on an airplane. Poor little guy. He's going to spend the day with Granny tomorrow to burn off some steam.

Actually, he's being calm and pleasant at the moment, chewing on his bone and thinking with shame about where he peed on the carpet. Good times. I think we'll get along, once he chills out!

here are some pics:

WOOOOOOOOOOO!

Roy is coming home this Wednesday! Well...barrign any unforseen, uh, bars with the airline. As things are right now, though, it looks like it's a go! I'm so excited!!! I can't wait to see my little guy at last. I'm running to the pet store now to get the rest of his needful things so I can have everything ready when the little dude arrives.

Expect tons and tons of pictures!

...maybe? [Jul. 9th, 2005|01:04 pm]

Cincinnati's supposed to be 79 on Wednesday, and New York is cool enough to ship right now. Do I dare hope that Roy will be here in just a few days? Arlene called me while I was out and said she'll see about booking him for Wednesday.

I'm not holding my breath. We'll see, though!

In other news, I went shopping and got all kinds of fun new show clothes. I think I have six new showing outfits now, which is probably a bit excessive. ;) It's so fun to buy skirt suits, though!!! I need to stop spending on clothes now and save the rest of my cash for food, a walking collar, and possibly a couple of baby gates for the kitchen. At least I got the crate dolly and grooming table taken care of last weekend.

Oh, poo - I also need to get a men's shaving razor for Roy! These damn hairless dogs...I tell ya. Good thing I still have a little bit of space left on my credit card. Ha ha.

More Roy news!

I talked with Arlene last night, and we came up with some *possible* shipping dates. Possibly next weekend, and possibly the following Wednesday...those are the most convenient for her, at any rate, but she can work it in whenever the weather is favorable. New York isn't too bad, and in any case she can put him on a flight there either early in the morning or late at night. Seattle isn't too terrible either, and I can be there the moment his flight lands so he won't have to spend more than 20 minutes in the heat. The main concern is his layover in Cincinnati. He'll have to spend a couple of hours there in the cargo area, which could get really hot. I'm not clear on exactly what temperature we need to be looking out for, but I'm thinking very low 80's or lower. So I'm rabidly watching the Cincinnati weather reports to see how things look.

So there's the Roy news! Pray for rain in Cincinnati!

Long time no update... [Jun. 19th, 2005|08:02 pm]
highwinds
Hello again. I haven't updated in forever, but I thought I'd fill everybody in on the Roy situation! He's pretty much paid off now, but is waiting for a break in the weather to ship. Apparently New York is having a heat wave, so shipping a dog right now could be dangerous. However, the breeder will be back from the National Specialty tomorrow, so I should hear more about what the weather forecasters are predicting out there this coming week. So hopefully we'll have a date soon for Roy's shipping! Hooray! His first show will be, I hope, July 12 and 13...or whatever that weekend is. So, everybody hope for cooler weather in New York!

Just for fun...check out my web site, with my model horse art! (the rest of my artwork will be updated as I have some freaking time. It's almost time for the Nationals, so I wanted to get the model horse stuff up soon!)

WE HAVE PUPPY!!! [Apr. 10th, 2005|06:06 pm]
highwinds
Woohoo! I just got off the phone with my breeder. She has decided on a puppy for me, providing his big-boy teeth all come in straight (his puppy teeth are straight, so they should be just fine). His name is Gingery's Viceroy (Roy for short) and he's from a cross that I REALLY like. He's about five months old now. I'll hopefully be flying out to Dallas this June for the ACCC Nationals, where Roy will be showing for the first time. I might even get to handle him there, depending on how I do in some "practice" sessions, considering I haven't had my hands on a show lead in a couple of years. I'm so excited!!!

If we move to a new place in June, I can bring him home from the Nationals - if not, I'll have to wait and fly him out in July. We'll see how it goes. I promised my husband I would not foist dogs upon him until we were moved into a bigger home. OOOH!!!! I'm so excited! I talked to my mom about one of the rental houses she owns in Edmonds that might be available in June, so hopefully that will pan out.

YAY! ROY! I think she sent pictures to my work account, so on Monday I might have pics to show!
